Wisdom of Health

If you’ve come to this website, you most likely have some familiarity with Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Its focus is on bringing the body back into balance so that it can do what it was designed to do: keep you feeling great, and healing itself if need be. First options for treatment are the restoration of energy flow, lifestyle changes, herbal remedies instead of harsh and expensive prescription medication or surgery, and acupressure or acupuncture. There are also specific TCM approaches to issues of cosmetic concern that can achieve remarkable results without surgery.

Dr. Melnyk is focused mainly on the complex and interconnected health and wellness issues of women, including adolescent teen girls. Women’s health is neglected in the scientific literature and as a specialty, despite the fact that women have particular health needs and concerns as a result of body composition, the menstrual cycle, hormones, and the extraordinary stresses they face in negotiating modern life. There are, for example, many physical maladies for which the incidence in women far outpaces the same incidence in men, such as autoimmune diseases, migraines, and thyroid problems.

Among other specific health concerns for women that  successfully treated with Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) are weight issues; menstrual problems like irritability, pain, bloating, discomfort, and irregularity;  fibroids;  endometriosis; digestive difficulties like irritable bowel syndrome; cosmetic skin difficulties; the stress and anxiety in both mind and body associated with children-rearing; and sleep concerns.

Women will often be beset by a range of physical and emotional concerns at the same time. For example, you may be suffering from bloating, weight gain, generalized pain, irregular menstrual cycles, and a diminution in vitality.  A western medical doctor might treat each of these separately, whereas TCM will help to unpack your particular symptoms, determine which have related causes and which are independent, and then offer the least invasive treatment to restore you to health.
